Answer：one was jim’s gold watch,whick had belonged to his father and had been the family treasure.the other was della’s long hair,and it was beautiful hair,which flowed down her back like a golden river.
2. why did della sell her hair?and dwaht did she get with the money?why?
answer：
della had her hair cut and sold it and get twenty dollars,because she really wanted to buy a Christmas present for her husband but she had no enough money for it.
Della searched the shops for jim’s present with money,at last she got it ---a nice watch-chain.because jim’s watch had no chain on it,now with the chain on it,jim might look at the time in any company.
3. why jim was rather surprised when he saw della?
Jim sold his gold watch and bought a set of combs for his wife,but when he came back and saw her,he found the beautiful hair was gone,so he was rather surprised.
4. explain the meaning of the story’s title and the theme of the story.
The title means the magi brought presents to jesus Christ on the first Christmas day.and they had the first idea of giving Christmas present.they were wise.
The theme of the story is :jim and della chose their presents unwisely,but the gifts were the best ones.because they are the signs of real love.
