´ð£ºThe words are chosen for the following criteria:1)They are the words most frequently used by people whose native language is English.2)They include all the structural eords.3)They include words most useful in explaining the meanings of other less frequently used words.4)They include words which are useful because other words can be built from them.this effort to introduce a scientific rationale for selecting the vocabulary content of language course represented the first atempts to establish principles of syllabus design in foreign language teaching.
2.What are the main features of this approach are as follows:1)Language teaching teaching begins with the spoken language.Material is taught orally before it is presented in the written form.2)The target language is the language of the classroom.Translation should be avoided.3)New language points are introduced and practised situationally,i.e.words should be presented in sentences,and sentences should be practised in meaningful contexts and not be taught as isolated,disconnected elements.4)Vocabulary selection procedures are dollowed to ensure that an essential general service vocabulary is covered.5)Items of grammar are graded following the principle that simple forms should be taught before complex ones,The rules of grammar should be taught only after the students have practiced the grammar points in context that is,grammar should be taught inductively.6)Reading and writting are introduced onece a sufficient texical and grammatical basis is established.

´ð£º1)Advantages of the Oral Approach:1.In language teaching practice,this approach has also made up some shortycomings of the direct method.2.In presenting the language structure,it emphasizes the function of situations which can help learners to apply what they have learned into real life practice.2)Disadvantages of the Oral Approach:1.This approach is not concerned necessarilly with appropriateness of with rules for use in real discourse.2.Its main purpose is to illustrate the grammatical points which have been isolated for study in a particular lesson.3.The situations are merely the vehicle through which the grammtical syllabus is conveyed.Therefore,this approach is still largely a grammar based one
